Less than three years after receiving $10 billion in bailout money from American taxpayers, Goldman Sachs informed its employees recently that it will fire 1,000 workers in the United States and elsewhere, shifting their jobs to the cheaper Singaporean labor market.
According to Fox Business, Goldman Sachs has quietly informed workers and lawmakers of its plan to outsource 1,000 jobs in an attempt to inoculate itself from the impending blowback:
Goldman is so concerned about the potential for criticism that the firm’s representatives have been alerting staffers of lawmakers in Washington of the hiring spree in recent weeks as a way to mollify any concerns they may have about previously undisclosed plans to add 1,000 jobs to the firm’s Singapore office, according to people in Washington with direct knowledge if the matter. Goldman is concerned about criticism because it is adding those jobs while it is planning what could be a significant retrenchment in its U.S. workforce, these people say.

Ralph Nader Cornel West Unveil Proposal to Challenge Obama in Primaries « Single Payer Action
-
Progressive leaders led by Ralph Nader and Cornel West unveiled a proposal today to challenge President Obama in the Democratic Party’s presidential primaries in 2012.
The proposal, which has been endorsed by over 45 distinguished leaders, seeks to have a slate of six candidates run against President Obama, each representing a field in which Obama has never clearly staked a progressive claim or where he has drifted toward the corporatist right.
“Without debates by challengers inside the Democratic Party’s presidential primaries, the liberal/majoritarian agenda will be muted and ignored,” said Ralph Nader.
“The one-man Democratic primaries will be dull, repetitive, and draining of both voter enthusiasm and real bright lines between the two parties that excite voters,” Nader said.

Occupy Portland | NEEDS OF THE OCCUPIERS
-
- Please send any suggestions or recommendations to occupyportland@gmail.com and use suggestion in the subject. All suggestions will be added to the web site and fb discussion board for discussion by the group.
- Translations from English to other languages for outreach is important
- Formation of thematic groups (these will be our individual working groups/committees) is important for developing bonds within the Portland GA & for allowing more proposals to get passed in assemblies with less ideological or semantic debate.
- Saying the phrase, “I formally propose” when proposing an item for consideration within the GA.
- It is important that we are representing ourselves as a unified group across the country. We should mirror the NYCGA idea that we should use ideas and language introduced involving solutions instead of demands.
- The Portland GA will have NO marshals, nor will any be recognized as such by the Portland GA, with any powers to make decisions on behalf of, or speak for, the Portland GA.

Occupy Portland | THE OCCUPATION
-
THE PLAN
On Oct. 6th, 12:00 pm, thousands will gather at the Waterfront near SW Ankeny and Naito Parkway (http://tinyurl.com/44rl474) to march to Pioneer Courthouse Square. This is solidarity with Occupy Wall Street, where thousands have been staying near the Wall Street stock exchange to protest the corruption of Washington politicians, misdeeds of big banks, and the cancerous rein of corporate lobbyists. Bring friends, family, passion, and supplies for the night because we will be in this for the long haul. Once we are done for the day we will then march back to the Waterfront and set up for the night.
-
WHAT TO EXPECT
As with most protests, this will be non-violent. Certain members of the group will cover what and what not to do. Where to be, how to behave, as well as where to go. We have a set route that we will march, which departs at 2:30. From the meeting place we will head to W Burnside, and walk until SW Broadway. From there we will continue south until reaching Pioneer Courthouse Square. Due to the property within the Square being privately owned, we may be asked to protest on the sidewalks surrounding the block.
When we depart from the Square, we will move down to SW Taylor and follow it back to the Waterfront. It is then that we will start the full Occupation.

WHAT TO BRING?
<!-- PHP 5.x -->
Aside from a spirit for change, everyone attending is asked to refer to the Needs of the Occupiers list.

Are NYC Police Protesting Abuse of Occupy Wall Street? | October 2011
- This is what happens in non-violent actions, if protesters stay non-violent, some police refuse to participate in the violence against the protesters.
-
Late last night we found out which white collar officer had maced our innocent protesters. We did not release this information as we had not yet come to a consensus on how to approach the situation. Earlier today we discovered that this information had already been released.
Yesterday, an NYPD spokesperson implied that we had edited the video to remove incriminating actions on the part of our peaceful protesters. Here are a few different angles and cuts of the event that we had not previously released:
- Today we received unconfirmed reports that over one hundred blue collar police refused to come into work in solidarity with our movement. These numbers will grow. We are the 99 percent. You will not silence us.
