the fund is designed to compensate fishermen and others for their lost income, and if BP is already paying someone to help skim oil and perform other cleanup work, those wages will be subtracted from the amount they're eligible to claim from the fund.

(I heard about this on democracy now last week and can't stop thinking about it.  Does this effectively mean that among BP's stakeholders who are helping to clean up the spill, those who have future legitimate claims will have done this dangerous work free of charge? )
